Oral cancer kills one person very hour, 24 hours a day in the United States. Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer in males in the United States. Unlike several other cancers, the survival rate for oral cancer has remained unchanged for decades. The overall 5-year survival rate for oral cancer is 52% but when discovered early, it increases to over 80%. Unfortunately, only 35% of oral cancer cases are diagnosed in the early stages. Why? There have been few advances made in screening techniques until now.
Because of this I am now offering Velscope exams for early detection of oral cancer. The Velscope is a painless, non-invasive clinical tool that shows changes in cells before detection by the human eye. Velscope examination combines minimal per patient costs with MORE effective early cancer screening. Through the CDT code DO431, an increasing number of insurance companies are recognizing Velscope as an adjunctive screening device. Oral healthcare professionals are the first line of defense in the fight against oral cancer. I am proud to be able to offer you this state of the art tool at Antioch dental Center.
